Pancakes at Nanny’s Pavillon

It looks like a random furniture shop in one corner of Kuala Lumpur’s International Airport at first glimpse. It then looks like a luggage storage space at the back of a random furniture shop.

Masood and I are the airport to pick up a rental car. We still have two hours, more than enough time to walk around and have breakfast. It’s been a week since we’re here in Malaysia and I’ve tried to eat as the locals do. But today I don’t feel like eating congee, nasi lemak or noodle soup.

This is when we spot Nanny’s Pavillon.

Established since March 2009, Nanny’s Pavillon first opened its door in Bandung, Indonesia. Nanny’s Pavillon is a conceptual French American pancake restaurant. Besides pancakes and waffles, the restaurant serves salads, baked rice, pasta, steaks, and coffee.

Masood orders the Original Pancake while I decide to indulge myself by ordering Ynez’s Blueberry Cheese Roll Pancake. While waiting for our food to be served, I take some pictures.

“Help me?” I plead. My blueberry cheese pancake is intimidating. It makes me regret my decisions in life. It makes me question my sanity. It makes me want to find a dozen companions to help me finish it.

“You ordered it, you finish it,” says my unsympathetic, ruthless husband. “But I don’t even like pancakes!” I say. He knows well that I am tempted to order this pancake for two reasons: first, I love blueberries and mascarpone cheese, and second, it’s Instagram worthy.

This pancake, ladies and gentleman, is delicious. There is no doubt about that. But it’s too heavy to be consumed by one person. Did I tell you there’s a scoop of vanilla ice cream sitting prettily on top? Also next time, I think I’d request them to put half the amount of cheese.

Masood eventually brings his fork forward and takes a piece from my pancake. Grateful for his kindness and understanding, I push my entire plate—still containing half of the serving— towards him and tell him to finish it.

I mean, his Original Pancake looks like a Kiddie Meal in comparison so he needs to eat more!

What’s the craziest pancake topping you’ve had?

Nanny’s Pavillon is located on L2M-23, Mezzanine Floor, gateway@klia2, Kuala Lumpur International Airport terminal 2.

  1. I enjoyed reading your humorous post! I love blueberries, so I would probably order the Original Pancake (last image), with a side of blueberries and butter. I don’t think my arteries could cope with anything too decadent! 😀
