The food parade: corn, sandwich, pineapple and strawberry.

Sharjah Food Festival ’09

“Feed Your Mind”.  This was this year’s theme for the Sharjah Food Festival, which took place between March 19-28, at Al Qasba – the hottest cultural and family entertainment hub in the U.A.E.  We went last Friday, when the weather was just perfect:  cool winds and light drizzling.

  1. What a fun looking festival, so bright and diverse. Hope you were well fed. The mosque looks lovely in the warm light. Great captures. Thanks so much for sharing.

  2. I find these pictures very beautiful! I mean: those in this post and those in your previous posts you’ve linked.
    It’s like I’m feeling the relaxing/joyful atmosphere…
And how beautiful buildings and glimpses of the city, what a colorful fair and attractions.
Thanks for the very nice description! It’s not the first time I’m reading your blog, and I like to go on following it.
    Greetings from Italy.
    Francesca.

Francesca, welcome to the blog! Wow, I didn’t realize I have a reader from Italy. This is so cool 🙂 Thank you so much for visiting!

  3. Looks interesting. Any other nice events taking place in the near future (in the next day or two)?

My mom would like to know of some cool things to do while she is there for a couple days!

Unfortunately, there’s nothing interesting scheduled for the next few weeks 🙁 Maybe it’s because of the weather: too much dust and rain.

  4. YUMM yum the flu is givin me the worst food cravings ever!!!

the plants on sale and the rides for kids wud be my fav :p and the Eiffel tower too 😀

    Get well soon!

  5. It looks like a fun time. Too bad we couldn’t have seen pix of the food stalls. I’m sure they were as amazing as that chocolate Eiffel Tower.

  6. As-salaamu’alaykum my dear sister,

Wow.. what a cool festival! I love the fruit/veggies.. LOL@the corn.. haha how cute.

Thanks for sharing, it’s nice to see what’s happening on the other side of the world.

    Love, Farhana

Walaikum Assalam, Sis Farhana. Welcome to the blog! 🙂

  7. Assalamualaikum sis,

*oohhh, rather surprising to see sister Farhana lurking hours before me… *

Anyway, brilliant photography! Dang! I would have thought it was a Mardi Gras parade until I read … DUBAI?! Thanks for sharing this colorful & should I say, yummy fest.? 🙂

Walaikum Assalam, Sis. Mardi Gras parade? LOL – this would be the micro-mini version of that! Nevertheless, it was indeed fun and colorful 🙂

  8. beautiful captures of the fair. looks like it was a fun event and the many activities…wow.
liked that chocolate scuplture of the eifel tower…yum and of course all the other events.

  9. Great festival, looks like lots of fun. I see you couldn’t photograph the food stalls because the women were around, are you not allowed to photograph the women or are women not allowed to be around the food?

LOL – women are allowed to be around food, of course 🙂 Actually, I try not to include people in my pictures, specially women who observe hijab, unless I ask permission first. It’s my way of respecting their privacy.

  10. The third last picture is an artistic masterpiece. If you have a high resolution camera (which one expects from you), then you can send it to a competition. I can bet you will win a prize.
    🙂

  11. Looks great – very good pics too! You get better day by day at photography – very very good takes!

I missed it though – I was in Pakistan at that time. 🙁
