Peacocks Outside The Ruler’s Palace

Never have I seen so many peacocks strutting merrily outside someone’s residence. They walk about casuallyβ€”ignoring vehicles and spectatorsβ€”as if it was the most natural thing to do.

This is the way to Dubai ruler, H.H. Sheikh Maktoum’s palace…

This place is near Zabeel Park. Actually, it is located opposite to it, I think. You can’t trust a geographically disoriented person like myself. But I am certain that you need to take the road that leads to Oud Mehta Road, the same one that has an exit for Al Ain.

Before the Oud Mehta sign however, watch out for the sign that says ‘Private Access’, or something like that. Turn right. Once you do that, you’ll see the palace right away…

So if you are in Dubai, take time out to visit the Zabeel palace. You’ll get to see the ruler’s home gate and birds. I see some people having fun feedingΒ  the birds too. And the best part is that this place is within the city and there’s no entrance fee!

    1. Ugly Shoelace, I am very fortunate that the peacocks decided to remain quiet that day. I read somewhere on the net that a
peacock makes a sound like a woman screaming. They are very loud and have been known to set off car alarms with their screech. Many people have been fooled by the peacock and called the police thinking a crime is being committed. πŸ˜€

  1. The peacocks look lovely! And there are so many of them! So beautiful! If peacocks can read, they’ll choose you as their spokesperson πŸ™‚

Very good pics,Nadia! If that blue bird could smile for you,now that will make history! The one with the birds crossing reminded me when I went to Sentosa,a tiny island here. There a family of peacock with the mummy and daddy were wathching out for oncoming traffic so the little ones could cross safely to the other side.We were mesmerized by this simple gesture. So mesmerized that we forgot to take pics:)I do find the male peacock a little bossy..haha!

Thanks for the wonderful pics of the ruler’s gate as well! πŸ˜€

    1. “If peacocks can read, they’ll choose you as their spokesperson.” LOL πŸ˜€

Yes, male peacocks are bossy … but aren’t most male creatures that way?

Thanks for sharing your own peacock story. I’d be too mesmerized to take pictures myself!

    1. Welcome to the blog, Specs! You finally made it πŸ˜‰

Yep, with my own domain comes the responsibility to tell the truth and nothing but the truth … so the ruler’s gate it is πŸ˜€

  2. It amazes me that you can get so close to the leader’s palace! I loved those peacocks when I was there but some guard came out and said “no pictures!”. I guess they relaxed that now.

    1. There was no sign anywhere that says photography was prohibited, but in these parts of the world, you never know. I was hesitating to take pictures in the beginning, but then a tourist bus came along and everyone started clicking away. So I joined in as well πŸ˜€

  3. sorry but do not agree with u guys about peacock’s voice … it’s not that bad acutally i quite like it – it gives a feeling of rain n clouds !!

BTW those are awesome pics. all of them πŸ™‚

  4. I think peacock feathers are sooooo beautiful! I love the colors in them!
LOL @ no entrance fee, I’m sure the Dubai ruler is rich enough to run the palace without entrance fees hehehe

    1. Hi Nisa! I agree; the colors of the features are truly beautiful, subhanAllah. And yeah, the ruler can do without the entrance fee πŸ˜€

    1. Hi Smiley! I know, these peacocks are very clever. I guess I’m lucky that one of them decided to put on a show. It was quick though, just enough time to take three pictures (only one came up good).

  5. Sir/ mam,
I am pritam das from india. I want to see the palace of king. Can I see? What is the timing for visitors. How I will go to palace from deira citi center? Plz reply.

    1. Hello, Pritam.

You can not actually see or visit the palace beyond the gate. These peacocks are all outside, along the huge and long driveway leading up to the palace gates, so there isn’t any fixed time to view them. Also, if you are coming from Deira City Centre, you can take a taxi.

  6. I am planning to visit these peacocks. Is there any specific time for the visitors? Planning to go on 22.08.2014.
