Aseana Resort & Spa
Langkawi—an archipelago made up of 99 islands on Malaysia’s west coast—is surrounded by turquoise sea, while the interior of the main island is a mixture of picturesque paddy fields and jungle-clad hills. Most visitors look for hotels or resorts by the beach, and such was the case with us. We did an exhaustive online search, reading so many reviews our eyes and head begin to hurt. The more we read the more indecisive we became.
There are excellent resorts in Langkawi. Resorts that boast of a private pristine beach just a few feet away, candlelit dinners, and customized tours of the island. Naturally, these sort of luxuries come at a cost. On the other hand, there are good affordable hotels, too. There are inexpensive hostels suitable for backpackers, and then there’s Airbnb. There’s something for everyone.
Why We Chose Aseana Resort & Spa.
We chose Aseana Resort & Spa because of its location – proximity to the beach and town. It was affordable and has decent reviews online.
The property is huge, and the main building is a massive colonial-style presence against a lush jungle backdrop. It boasts of having the longest swimming pool in the country!
According to the official website:
Strategically located along the Pantai Tengah in Mukim Kedawang, Aseania Resort encompasses 7.5 acres of luxurious facilities and lush greenery. Our 217 rooms are fully furnished to give visitors the comforts of modern living complemented by the unique old-world charm of Langkawi.
While the greenery is lush, I wouldn’t classify the facilities as luxurious. The amenities are basic.
On the way to our room I noticed a side table with books on them and I got pretty excited! I didn’t have any books with me so I was thinking that this was a good move by the resort’s management. Or perhaps the guests have been leaving their books behind for others to peruse? After checking the room out, I went back to see those books. Turned out they were all in German!
What We Liked About the Resort.
The property is impressive, clean, and well-kept.
The service is good and efficient! The ladies at the reception desk always greeted us with a smile, were extremely courteous and considerate.
Check-in and checkout were a breeze. We arrived early and asked for a one-hour extension upon checking-out, and they accommodated our requests on both occasions.
The room rate! We stayed on November 2016, in a Superior Room with daily buffet breakfast which cost us only RM 270 ($60) per night! There was some promotion going on at that time and we availed of that.
The pool! It’s the longest in the country! There are slides, and wave pools, and giant mushrooms with water coming out from them!
Halal breakfast was served by the gorgeous pool, surrounded by trees, the birds delightfully chirping away. The buffet spread has a good number of options for everyone. Food was fresh.
The rooms are large.
Free and decent WiFi.
Ample parking space.
Location: close to town.
What We Didn’t Quite Like About the Resort.
While the rooms are spacious, the furniture is seriously outdated.
The lobby and breakfast areas are not air-conditioned. The weather, fortunately, was pleasant when we were there but I can only imagine how hot and humid it could get during summer.
Drinking and singing going on each night so if you, like us, want a quiet night to sleep and relax, request for a room further away from the lobby.
Not too close to the beach.
In conclusion, Aseana Resort & Spa in Langkawi feels like a 3-star establishment. It is best suited for families with children—they’ll have a blast in the pools and will never want to leave. There are definitely more pros than cons, and our overall experience has been a pleasant one.

That’s a beautiful resort! Location is everything 🙂
It’s a beautiful resort, no doubt. But if I have to visit Langkawi again, I’d choose a place that overlooks the beach.
