The Gold Souq at Dubai Mall

So the largest mall in the world is house to the world’s largest indoor gold market.  Inside, it felt like King Midas had been there touching everything.  Designed by Northpoint architects of South Africa, the Gold Souq at Dubai Mall “recreates the traditional charm of an Arabian souq reflecting the rich regional heritage of the gold trade.”

The Gold Souk is designed to reveal the journey of the traveling merchants crossing the desert expanse to trade gold and other commodities.

Oh, I love these young girls!  They were behind me when I was trying take a picture, and when their mom continued walking, the older girl said, “Wait mom, the lady’s taking a picture!”  The mom still continued walking, hence the reason why they are in that picture.  But her girls are sweet!

With 220 retailers – spread out on an area of 850,000 sq ft – this is the world’s largest indoor gold market in the world’s largest mall.

Accentuated with decorative gold and marble detailing, the Gold Souq’s traditional theme is a key attraction to The Dubai Mall.

Directions.  Because believe me, one needs them.  It’s like a huge maze in there!

Starry, starry night.

The main south entrance begins with this  life-size bronze Arabian stallion, who seems ready to attack someone.

Tree with gold coins as leaves.  Artificial ones, of course.

A throne, where I’ve seen people sit and have their pictures taken.

Well, that’s the Gold Souq at the Dubai Mall!  Yes, we didn’t buy anything;  gold’s way too expensive these days.  Besides, I’d rather buy new lens for my Nikon.  In the meantime, click on the link below and visit places around the world.

  1. Oh, yes! Your pictures are indeed worth their weight in gold! Amazing! I, too, love the starry night and the Arabian horse — had one of those many years ago! What a terrific post! Thanks for sharing a stunning part of your world!

    Have a great week!

  2. MashaAllah, incredible photos! I’ve never actually been to that part of the mall before, just seen it from afar- now I’m tempted to go check it out, it looks gorgeous.

Oh, and I had no idea Dubai mall is the biggest mall in the world!! It doesn’t feel very big to me, lol.

  3. I love the stallion statue its fantastic, but a gold market would be too rich for me, however its nice to have been given a guided tour. Thankyou.

  4. Incredible… simply… too bad no one is buying the gold…

It seems everything in Dubai now is just waaaay out of this world!

Been reading a lot of Dubai in the press here recently (mostly bad news) but at least someone had the vision to dream and build some nice stuff… just unlucky about the timing that’s all.

  5. Impressive place. Sort of reminds me of The Venetian in an opulent sort of way. Would love to visit Dubai one of these days. The closest I got was an 8 hour layover at the airport which was pretty luxurious as well, compared to other airports.
